Old Quebec City and surroundings

Set in the heart of Old Québec, Musée de l'Amérique francophone is an essential cultural activity for history lovers. The Museum offers exhibitions on the colonial history of America, the evolution of Francophone culture in North America and abroad, and the effervescence of arts and crafts in Québec. Until June 23, open Saturday and Sunday, to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  From June 24 to September 3rd opened everyday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

400 Years in the History of Québec Art

Proud of its reference collection of Québec art, the Musée abundant collection of more than 38,000 works offers a vast survey of the history of Québec art from the seventeenth century to today.

An Exceptional Building

Discover the MNBAQ's new Pierre Lassonde pavilion, a world-class building by the architectural consortium OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture)/Provencher_Roy architectes, with its majestic glass lobby, monumental spiral staircase, cantilevered staircase in the treetops and inner courtyard which blends architectural heritage with the contemporary. Visit the eight exhibition galleries, where contemporary Québec art since 1960 is on display, including Inuit art, the decorative arts and design.

Sculpted ceilings, columns topped with capitals and noble materials: the neo-classical architecture of the Charles Baillairgé pavilion is an impressive sight! Visit its seven exhibition galleries highlighting the collection of Québec historical art, the MNBAQ's gems, by great masters such as Krieghoff, Hamel, Suzor-Coté, Gagnon, Fortin and Borduas.

The Charles Baillairgé pavilion - which served as the Québec City jail for nearly a century - will fascinate with its jail cells, some of which have been preserved. Four galleries devoted to the figures of modern Québec art display masterpieces by Jean Paul Lemieux, Alfred Pellan, Fernand Leduc and Jean-Paul Riopelle.

The Citadelle of Québec is the largest British fortress in North America. It is an integral part of the Québec fortifications and is located on Cape Diamond, the city's highest point. The citadel was recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1980 and is part of the Historic District of Old Québec, which was placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1985.

The mission of the Musée Royal 22e Régiment's mission is to acquire, conserve, and showcase artifacts and historical documents that recount of the history and values of the Royal 22e Régiment as well the Citadelle of Québec and place them in the context of Canadian military history.

The Museum is a must-see attraction for vacationers and residents alike who are curious about the origins of New France. Through the museum's historic houses, exhibits, guided activities and period costume workshop, families will discover the history of the first colonists.
